Burch Livestock is located in west central Iowa, about 90 miles east of Omaha and 75 miles west of Des Moines. We currently run 150 ewes in Iowa and have a small group of cows in Wyoming. Kolby and Micky both grew up in livestock production settings where the cows and sheep paid the bills. If they failed to do so, then they had to be culled and clearly a high rate of turnover within a herd cuts down on profitability. So efforts were made to identify the areas that have the biggest effect on perpetual productivity. Fertility, birth weight, fleshing/foraging ability, frame size and skeletal soundness all play a major role. These selection measures have to be coupled with the demands of a show ring setting where livestock obviously need to be good looking, skeletally correct, and more extreme in their muscle content/shape and stoutness. More than 20 years has been devoted to bringing these antagonistic traits together and working with families to win at every competitive level. We would love the opportunity to work with you. Please make plans to visit Burch Livestock in 2012. |
